Diving

My grand-father was one of the first diving men in french navy.
It was between 1920 and 1925.
I have no pictures of him from that time ,
but when I wanted to write his story
I searched and found those postcards in flea markets.

Seeing the diving suit makes me think that
those guys were very courageous , or fool..

Diving in these old suits and helmets was a dangerous activity requiring a team of workers. Then along came Jacques Cousteau and the aqualung allowing humans to free dive with greater freedom and safety. We have been exploring the under sea world ever since. Wonderful old postcards. Your Grandfather was a hero.

These men were like the astronauts of their era. It's fascinating to think about what it must have been like to be under the sea in a diving suit. The guys on the air pump and the guys who lifted the diver out of the water probably had very strong arms.

Thak you very much for those kind comments!
