Celebrating

Around 1950

(Probably in Oran , Algeria)
I'm surprised by the strange hats.
But I know they were all in the navy.

Cool picture! The hats are interesting. I can see anchors on the front of some of them. Just a wild guess but maybe it's a special hat for aircraft workers. Like mechanics/groundcrew?
I wonder if the wine was local or imported from "l'hexagone"?

Here's a quote from a U.S. Sailor in Oran in 1944.

"Thursday May 11th
Disenbarked. One boy dropped
his gear between the ship and
dock. Nice time getting it. Sat
all morning waiting for info. Sent
to Oran Rec, Sta. Went by truck
and not any too slow. All the fields
had vineyards. Must be a drunks paradise." -Seaman 1st Class Thomas Schreck

Taken For Granted a dit…

The early 1950s were optimistic times. The war had been over for a few years and these young men were survivors. They had reason to celebrate. Thank you for your recent comment on my blog. BTW, those hats do not look so strange.

Malyss a dit…

Maybe I should use the word "unusual" rather than Strange.

Wine was rather travelling from Algeria to France .
