Thank you for your comments today on my blog. Yes, the harvest usually produces way more corn that can be stored in elevators or shipped by rail, so it is piled on the ground and covered with tarps. These piles are the ones used first for distilling ethanol, and feeding animals, so these piles seldom last more than a few months. The Belted Galloway cattle have recently become more common here, and yes, it is funny they are called Oreo Cattle. They are perfect for our harsh northern prairie climate.
