Beautiful photographs with those snow capped mountains in the background. You do live in a wonderful place. That yacht in your first photo is impressive, but I've always been more attracted to sailboats where the wind is converted to speed. Thank you for your kind comments on my recent posts.
The classic gambrel roof barn is common in the U.S. and England. The shape of the barn comes from the way it was used. Usually animals lived in the ground level, and the gambrel roof allowed for greater space to store feed for the animals. Hay and grain could be easily thrown down to the farm animals. They were traditionally painted red because farmers made their own paint out of milk, lime, linseed oil, and iron oxide giving the red color. The paint preserved the wood and the dark color made the barns warmer in winter. Now that farmers rely mostly on machinery to grow grain and animals are raised industrially, barns are disappearing.

So beautiful! We can see mountains here and I always love seeing them covered with snow. Have a great weekend!
